Do note that the free services mentioned below are not expected of an interior designer and is by no means an indication of an interior designer's ability or sincerity. Their willingness to go the ‘extra-mile’ is dependent on multiple factors e.g. company policies, the scope of your renovation, your budget, the way you treat them etc.
Guided Shopping
If you’re intending to source materials or accessories yourself, your interior designers might be able to provide recommendations on credible shops you can visit.
They can also serve as a sounding board that prevents you from making mistakes e.g. you can ask them for advice on whether the prices are reasonable or their opinion on the item you’re purchasing.
Some interior designers may even accompany you during your shopping trips.
Wear and Tear for Negligible Items
Wear and tear generally aren’t protected by warranties (see warranty clauses to look out for). However, some interior designers may be willing to provide a rectification at no charge for negligible items e.g. door hinges rusting.
Handyman Works
Interior designers may also be willing to help you out in areas which fall outside the scope of the renovation works you’re paying them for e.g. putting up a photo frame, installation of self-purchased items etc.
Note: It is unreasonable to demand free installation of self-purchased items that are obviously out of scope. E.g. free installation of toilet accessories when you’re not paying your IDs for any toilet related works.
Coordinating Deliveries
Got too many Taobao deliveries arriving at unexpected timings? Your interior designer might be willing to help receive them (just don't go overboard 🤪)!
